BYRNESMEDIA S4-06 BBM HIGHLIGHTS

Greg Diamond

2006 has been a great year for ByrnesMedia and things certainly ended on a positive note for both our clients and us.

Congratulations to all our stations that were in the BBM S4-06 ratings. Across Canada, this was undoubtedly the most successful ratings period in ByrnesMedia’s history.

Some of the notables include:

  • Halifax

The long-awaited arrival of Evanov Radio Group’s CHR baby, Z103.5, was nothing short of spectacular!

The A12+ showing was a respectable 8.5, but it’s when the station’s targets are examined that the true impact of Z103.5’s arrival is evident. It achieved #1 shares in all of its key demos and even achieved a #2 in A25-34.

Given the level of competition in the market (e.g. the formidable C100), Z103.5’s initial showing is a truly impressive accomplishment and gives the station a solid base to build from in 2007.

  • Saint John

It was yet another monster for the combo of Country 94 and its Hot AC sister, 97.3 The Wave. Together, they command an unbeatable 46.3% Share in A12+! More importantly, it will be virtually impossible to buy around a combo that garners 48.6% of A25-54 in a six-station market!

  • Fredericton

The two Astral FM stations have recaptured their market dominance and are now a solid #1 and #2 in rank. The Fox (rock) and Capital FM (Hot AC) dominate each gender and make their combo an unbeatable ad buy.

  • Belleville

Mix 97 continues its cradle to the grave dominance in the Quinte area with a solid Hot AC format and a strong, locally-focused morning show. The demo wins are numerous and very impressive with #1 positions in all of the station’s key demographic targets.

  • Toronto

Z103.5 continues to roll along with its unique Top 40/Dance format. The station is still the choice for younger adults in the GTA with #1 Shares in A12-24 and A18-34 (12.3) and it totally dominates the young Female audience.

  • Barrie

107.5 Kool FM was repositioned and relaunched at the start of ’06 and things look to be paying off very well. The station ended up capturing its narrow target demo of F25-34 with an impressive 17.9 Share (up from 4.2 fall to fall!). This puts Kool on solid footing to further expand into the female demos and make a great compliment to its sister-station, market-leading Rock 95.

  • Thunder Bay

Rock 94 has further cemented its position as the undisputed top FM in this 5 station market. It is #1 in every key demographic group it targets.

  • Regina

Once again, Lite 92FM is #1 in F25-64 and when combined with its sister station, The Wolf, the 2 are an unbeatable buy in A25-54.

  • Owen Sound

The Bayshore stations, Mix 106, Country 93 and CFOS, have an overwhelming 46 share in this market. The competition has 15.5.

  • Red Deer

Big 105 was repositioned as a Hot AC earlier in the year to take better advantage of the opportunities that existed in Central Alberta. The move has paid off in spades with the station now being #1 in most categories.

  • Lethbridge

B93 was also repositioned in 2006 and is now an outstanding CHR that captured all its targets in S4-06, despite a signal impediment that affects the station’s ability to fully encompass the entire market.
