COUNTRY, ROCK FORMAT SHARES BLOSSOM IN SPRING

Stations in the Country and Rock formats enjoyed the biggest audience increases in the Spring book, according to Arbitron's Spring Format Trends data. Most of the other formats were basically flat or moved just a small fraction of a share, while Spanish-formatted stations took a sizable hit.

 

Country's format share rose from 9.2-9.7%, while the Rock formats' share increased from 7.4-7.9%. Taking the big hit in the Spring were Spanish-formatted stations, whose share fell from 11.9%-11%.

 

News/Talk stations, still the most popular format stayed flat at 17.4%. Elsewhere, AC stations went 13.9-14.0%; Top 40 went 10.8-1.9%; Urban stations went 9.9-9.8%; and Alternative stations fell 3.6-3.4%.

 

Compared to year-ago (Spring '06) data, the winners were AC (12.9-14.0%) and Country (9.1-9.7%). The rest: News/Talk (17.3-17.4%), Top 40 (11.3-10.9%), Urban (10.1-9.8%), Rock (7.7-7.9%) and Alternative (3.4-3.4%).
