HERITAGE MINISTER, CRTC CHAIR TO ADDRESS CAB CONFERENCE

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) is pleased to announce that the Hon. Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and Official Languages, will address Convention delegates at the Gold Ribbon Awards Breakfast on Tuesday November 6.
CRTC Chair Konrad von Finckenstein will deliver a keynote address at the CAB Gold Ribbon Awards Luncheon on Monday November 5, 2007, the Association also announced.
Madame Verner was first elected as a Member of Parliament for the riding of Louis-Saint-Laurent in 2006. She was appointed Minister of International Cooperation and Minister for La Francophonie and Official Languages on February 6, 2006, and became Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages on August 14, 2007.
In June 2004, Ms. Verner was named spokesperson for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec in Stephen Harper's shadow cabinet. In September 2005, she accepted the additional position of party spokesperson for Official Languages. She also served as chair of the Quebec Caucus for the Conservative Party of Canada. Ms. Verner has spent close to 20 years in the communications and public service fields.
Prior to joining the CRTC in January 2007, Mr. von Fickenstein was a judge of the Federal Court. Between 1997 and 2003, he was Commissioner of Competition at the Competition Bureau. He began his career in the public service at the Department of Justice Canada, where, in 1986, he was appointed Senior General Counsel of the Trade Negotiations Office and Chair of the Canadian dispute settlement mechanism.
In addition, Mr. von Finckenstein has held various positions at the assistant deputy minister level in the departments of External Affairs and Justice Canada.
