CBC NEED FOR CONTRACT WITH CANADIANS

RADIO, AGENCIES RESPOND TO PPM DELAY

Arbitron’s decision on Monday (Nov. 26) to delay the commercialization of its Portable People Meter (PPM) radio ratings service in nine markets -- by nine months in New York, Nassau-Suffolk and Middlesex; by six months in Los Angeles, Riverside and Chicago; and by three months in San Francisco, San Jose and Dallas -- has received an immediate response from the ratings company’s most vocal critics of PPM. Others, however, are still privately digesting the news and wondering about a backlash against radio in the year ahead that would give planners and advertisers another reason to spend dollars in media that they deem more "accountable."

Arbitron Inc. announced today that it will delay the commercialization of its Portable People Meter (PPM) radio ratings service in nine markets.  New York, Nassau–Suffolk and Middlesex–Somerset–Union will be delayed by nine months; Los Angeles, Riverside and Chicago by six months; and San Francisco, San Jose and Dallas by three months.

Universal Music Group today posted a 6.8% rise in Q3 sales to €1.17 billion ($1.7 billion), on the back of hit albums from Nelly Furtado, Amy Winehouse, Mika, Maroon 5, Kanye West and 50 Cent. But the music giant's earnings before interest, tax and amortisation (EBITA) for the three months to Sept. 30 fell by 16.7% to €115 million ($227 million), compared with the corresponding period in 2006.

First ever radio show hosted by a League Commissioner - "NHL Hour" to debut November 27
