After radio contestant Jennifer Strange died from water intoxication - the result of KDND/Sacramento's water-drinking contest Hold Your Wee for a Wii - syndicated radio personality Erich “Mancow” Muller has announced that he is creating the Foundation For Responsible Radio and calling for an end to “voyeuristic FM radio stunts." Last week, Mancow made appearances on Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition and The O’ Reilly Factor to discuss his views about the tragic incident.
“Small markets feel the need to do this to get ratings and it is wrong,” said Mancow, who is based at TRN-FM in Chicago. “Voyeuristic radio has died or gone to satellite… America doesn’t want this stuff.”
He added that he wants to set up a fund for the family of Strange, including her three children. Mancow is extending an invitation to the radio community to help in both raising money for the family and for the creation of the Foundation For Responsible Radio. More info will be available soon on his Web site, www.mancow.com. |
