HUGH SYRJA RETIRES
89.5 MixFM Kenora Release
Long time Station Manager for the Fawcett Broadcasting Group in Northwestern Ontario, Hugh Syrja, has announced his retirement from close to four decades in broadcasting.
Hugh started his career as an Announcer at CFPA Radio in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) and has since managed CKDR Radio Dryden, CFOB (B93) Fort Frances and CJRL (89.5 Mix FM) Kenora.
Over the years Hugh was the co-recipient of numerous Radio Marketing Bureau Sound Craft Awards, accepted a Canadian Association of Broadcasters Gold Ribbon Award for News Coverage on behalf of CKDR Radio Dryden and has organized the annual 89.5 Mix FM Christmas Miracle Marathon in Kenora. Since its inception the Miracle Marathon has raised over three quarters of a million dollars on behalf of the Salvation Army.
Hugh and wife Marilyn will retire to their lake home near Kenora.
An announcement will follow in the near future regarding Hugh's successor.
