FCC TO INVESTIGATE KDND/SACRAMENTO

Keith Berman – Radio and Records

Following attorney Roger Dreyer's letter to the FCC requesting that the commission revoke KDND (107.9 The End)/Sacramento's license in the wake of Jennifer Strange's death, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin has directed the FCC Enforcement Bureau to look into the matter.

"It's standard practice when there are alleged violations of our rules for the Enforcement Bureau to investigate those issues," FCC spokesperson Tamara Lipper told R&R. "Martin was troubled by the information he saw in the letter and thought it was appropriate for the Enforcement Bureau to look into what happened."

Dreyer, who plans to file a civil suit against Entercom on Thursday (Jan. 25) morning, is content to let the FCC proceed with its own investigation and potentially take action against the station. "While we welcome the FCC's decision to investigate Jennifer's sad and senseless death, we'll be seeking justice for Jennifer's family through the civil process," he said.

"If the FCC decides to pull KDND's license and discipline its parent company, Entercom, it would be sending a very clear message to radio executives around the nation that this kind of irresponsible programming that degrades, humiliates and endangers citizens just to increase ratings will not be tolerated."
