CAB ANNOUNCES 2006 GOLD RIBBON AWARD WINNERS FOR NEWS, DOCUMENTARY AND INFORMATION PROGRAMMING

The Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) today recognized the outstanding news, documentary, and public affairs programming of its members with the presentation of the prestigious Gold Ribbon Awards. The awards were presented at the Gold Ribbon Awards Breakfast at the CAB’s 80th Anniversary Convention in Vancouver.

 

The 2006 Gold Ribbon Awards in the news, documentary, and public affairs programming categories were presented this morning to the following stations and services:

 

Radio

Information Program: CHED, Edmonton (Suicide – Lifting the Silence)

Breaking News: CFTR, Toronto (Air France Crash)

 

Television

Documentaries and Public Affairs: CFMT/CJMT-TV, Toronto (Let’s Talk About It)

Magazine Programming: CHCA-TV, Red Deer (Stampede Central)

News - Breaking News: CIVT-TV, Vancouver (Mudslide)

News - Special Series: CICT-TV, Calgary (The Bully Solution)

 

Specialty and Pay

Documentaries and Public Affairs: Discovery, Toronto (Targeting Terror)

Magazine Programming: RDI, Montréal (109 - Métroman)

News and Current Affairs - Special Series: RDI, Montréal (RDI Junior)

 

Gold Ribbon Awards

The Gold Ribbon Awards pay tribute to achievements in broadcasting in various categories including community service, breaking news, humour, public affairs and promotion of Canadian talent. A total of 518 submissions were received for the 2006 Gold Ribbon Awards.

 

These awards are among the most prestigious in the Canadian broadcasting industry, and recognize outstanding productions in radio, television, specialty and pay services, and community service.

 

In 2006, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) celebrates 80 years as the national voice of Canada’s private broadcasters, representing the vast majority of Canadian programming services, including private radio and television stations, networks, specialty, pay and pay-per-view services.
