SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED FOR GALAXIE RISING STARS AWARD OF THE CBC CNW Canadian Music Week announces the shortlist for the critic selected 2006 Galaxie Rising Stars Award of the CBC. Music journalists from print, TV, radio and online media were asked for their top 10 Canadian independent releases of 2005, based on artistic merit (creativity, originality, etc.) and not sales or airplay. Submissions were then shortlisted and these same critics will choose the most deserving recording and select the recipient of this year's Award.
The $3,000 award is part of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program of the CBC, an original program that sets out to discover, encourage and promote new artists. To date, more than 450 artists have benefited from the Rising Stars Program, including The Arcade Fire, Matt Mays and Lisa Brokop.
The winner will be announced at The 2006 Indie Awards. Presented by Sympatico.MSN.ca, the Indies take place on March 1, 2006 at The Docks Concert Theatre (11 Polson Street) in Toronto.
