TENTH ANNUAL 'COMMUNICATIONS, MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE' TO DRAW INDUSTRY LEADERS

Some of Canada's most influential corporate leaders are gathering for the tenth annual Communications, Media & Technology Conference being held February 22-23, 2006, at the Fairmont Chateau in Whistler.

 

Interest in this annual gathering has grown as technological advances have catapulted the wireless mobile communications industry into the economic fore. "This year we have extraordinarily strong representation of Canada's key communications, media and technology companies," said Gavin Ezekowitz, managing director and co-head of equity sales at RBC Capital Markets, the conferences's sponsor. Ezekowitz will deliver the conference's opening remarks on the first day of the conference, Wednesday, February 22. Attending the conference, he said, "are the leaders who will shape this industry for years to come."

 

The first day also will include panel discussions on wireless data and the telecom/cable industry. It will feature "conversations" with Dan Shea, chief technology officer of Celestica Inc., Marc Tellier, president and chief executive officer of Yellow Pages Income Fund; John Bitove, chairman and chief executive officer of Canadian Satellite Radio; Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general manager, PC Group, of ATI Technologies Inc.; Rob Rose, CSO, Cognos Inc.; Jim Shaw, chief executive officer of Shaw Communications; Rob Bruce, president of Rogers Wireless, and Edward Rogers, president of Rogers Cable; and John Shackleton, president and chief executive officer of Open Text Corporation. The evening's keynote speaker will be Stephen J. Dubner, co-author of Freakonomics, the best-selling book on behavioral economics.

 

On the second day of the conference, the keynote speaker at lunch will be Randy Lennox, president and chief executive officer of Universal Music Canada. The day also will include "conversations" with Mike Zafirovski, chief executive officer of Nortel Networks Corp.; Richard Harrington, president and chief executive officer of The Thomson Corp.; Michael Sabia, president and chief executive officer of BCE Inc.; Ed Colligan, chief executive officer of Palm Inc.; Leonard Asper, president and chief executive officer of CanWest Global Communications Corp.; Paul Sanchirico, director of Video/IPTV of Cisco Systems; Robert McFarlane, executive vice president and chief financial officer of TELUS Corp., and Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-chief executive officer of Research in Motion Ltd.
