A 2004 RISING STAR TAKES HOME A 2005 HAT TRICK PLUS FANS’ CHOICE NOD

CCMA Release

The Canadian Country Music Awards showcased some of Canada’s biggest country stars and special guests at Pengrowth Saddledome Monday night.

Alberta’s darling, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, opened the show with style and grace in a sparkling performance of “Simple Life”. With this year’s awards show taking place in

Calgary at the conclusion of Alberta’s Centennial celebrations, a special tribute was paid by Host Paul Brandt, followed by two of Alberta’s finest cowboys: Corb Lund and

Ian Tyson. The Corb Lund Band, named Roots Artist/Group of the Year winner and

Independent Group of the Year, was joined by the legendary Ian Tyson for a special duet.

From rising star to four-time 2005 CCMA Award winner (Single of the Year, SOCAN

Song of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Kraft Cheez Whiz Fans’ Choice Award)

George Canyon sang “Who Would You Be”, sending a thank you to the fans that have supported him throughout his climb, and helped him deliver a career milestone year.

In other highlights, Host Paul Brandt took home both Album and CMT Video of the Year, The Road Hammers were named Group of the Year, and Terri Clark was honoured with the Female Artist of the Year title. The Chevy Trucks Rising Star award went to Amanda Wilkinson, her first award as a solo artist. This weekend Independent of the Year awards for Male Artist went to Aaron Pritchett and for Female Artist to Lisa Hewitt.

This year’s CCMA Award show was broadcast live on CBC television with encore broadcasts on CMT in Canada. The show also airs in the U.S. on GAC and in Australia on CMC. The full list of winners follows below.
