NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS
CMW Release
Canadian and International independent recording artists may now apply for the 2006 Independent Music Awards, or “The Indies”, to be held in Toronto on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 as the official kick off to Canadian Music Week (CMW) festivities.
Deadline to apply is November 30, 2005. Entry forms along with submission rules and regulations can be obtained from the CMW Web site at www.cmw.net, or by contacting Bessie Bullard at (905) 858-4747 or via email at communications@cmw.net. Artists can also submit online at www.sonicbids.com/indies2006.
Presented by SympaticoMSN, winners in 23 of the 25 categories are decided by both a public vote and an industry vote, celebrating outstanding achievement in sound recording. The awards are limited to independent artists and cover some 15 different genres of music with two new categories for this year, including International Album of the Year and the SympaticoMSN Artist Website of the Year.
The Indies celebrate the best in Canadian independent music. Last year’s sold-out event was hosted by Jian Ghomeshi and featured performances by The Trews, Thornley, Martha and The Muffins, and Controller.Controller. Past years' winners include The Arcade Fire, The Trews, Interpol, Alexisonfire, Kataklysm, Death From Above 1979, Hot Hot Heat, Default, The Weakerthans, Fidgital and Dashboard Confessional. Keep checking www.cmw.net for updates on nominations, hosts, presenters and performers.
Tickets for The Indies may be purchased early 2006 on the CMW web site at www.cmw.net or by calling 905-858-4747.
