CHUM LIMITED KICKS OFF A NEW YEAR OF CHUMWORKS

Weekly homework club in partnership with Frontier College and St. Mary's School, now in its 4th year

CHUM Limited is pleased to embark on another year of its popular and successful CHUMWorks program. Now entering its fourth year, the homework club, in association with Frontier College and St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School in Toronto, pairs CHUM employees with inner-city students once a week throughout the school year to provide tutoring assistance and foster positive mentoring relationships. Participants meet Thursday evenings beginning tonight at the CHUM Building.

CHUMWorks matches students with CHUM employees, all of whom must apply for acceptance into the program. CHUMWorks was created four years ago as an expansion of CHUM's community outreach initiatives.

"Dozens of CHUM employees across all levels of our company have volunteered their time to make a positive difference in the lives of these wonderful young people," said Sarah Crawford, CHUM's Vice President of Public Affairs. "CHUMWorks continues our longstanding relationship with Frontier College, whose staff provide invaluable training and support."

"CHUMWorks has become an integral part of our students' educational experiences. As an inner city school, our students do not have the same opportunities to access support for their academics outside the classroom. The CHUMWorks program encourages our students to take responsibility for their learning while being exposed to a whole new environment. Every September, the grade 7 and 8 students ask their teachers when the homework club is starting!" said Laurie Levay, Principal of St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School.

"It's a great success," said John O'Leary, President of Frontier College. "The principal and teachers are all extremely pleased with the program and have noticed significant, positive changes in the social and academic skills of the CHUMWorks kids. And the students, all of them, are enthusiastic participants - they're learning, they're forming strong relationships with caring adults and they're having fun!"

Frontier College is a non-profit, literacy-based organization that partners with various businesses and volunteer groups to set up tutoring programs throughout the GTA. They also tutor out of their facility.
