BILL GATES SAYS CELL PHONES WILL BEAT OUT IPODS

Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who knows a thing or two about competition with Apple Computers, says he sees multi-purposes cell phones as the future of portable music listening and not the iPod. In an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Gates said, "As good as Apple may be, I don't believe the success of the iPod is sustainable in the long run." He continued, "You can make parallels with computers: Apple was very strong in this field before, with its Macintosh and its graphics user interface -- like the iPod today -- and then lost its position."
Reuters reports that Microsoft is partnering with phone companies to provide its new Windows Mobile smartphone software for the next generation of mobile phones. In fact, Gates told the paper, "If you were to ask me which mobile device will take top place for listening to music, I'd bet on the mobile phone for sure."
