The 40th Annual Crystal Awards are set to recognize the best in Canadian Radio advertising, including the $10,000 "Best in Show" Platinum Crystal Award.

The awards are hosted by the Radio Marketing Bureau (RMB) and will be presented on Thursday, March 3, during Canadian Music Week at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

There are eight Crystals categories: Agency-Single; Station-Single; Agency-Campaign (3-6 ads); Station-Campaign (3-6 ads); Creative Use of Sound/Music; Station Promotion; and two new categories have been added: Performance and Public Service Announcement. Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies will be awarded in all categories.

"The category winners show what creative thinking can achieve," said Wray Ellis, RMB's creative director. "We see something new each year and this is no exception."

Two Crystals attendees will each win a valuable door prize. One lucky participant from the Agency/Advertiser sector will win a trip to Cannes for the 52nd Annual International Advertising Festival, where radio will be judged as a category for the first time. One Radio Station attendee will win a trip to Los Angeles for the 2005 International Radio Creative and Production Summit.

The 2005 Crystal Awards is just one of the events the RMB has planned for March 3. The day begins at 9 a.m. with the Crystals Creative Seminar. Terry O'Reilly, Partner, Pirate Radio & Television, will host "10 Best Radio Spots of All Time". At 12:30 p.m. it's the Gala Luncheon hosted by celebrated funny man Sean Cullen, with musical guests Matt Dusk and David Usher. The afternoon's keynote address will be given by Dr. Jackie Freiberg, co-author of: "Guts!: Companies that Blow the Doors Off Business-As-Usual". Each Crystal Awards ticket includes admission to the Creative Seminar, the Gala Luncheon and the keynote address. Tickets are $150 each and may be purchased online at: http://www.cmw.net/crystals.htm

"We're looking forward to paying tribute to the best in radio again this year," said John Harding, president of RMB. "Our partnership with Canadian Music Week allows people from every area of the business to interact and learn from each other."
