SIRIUS CANADA KICKS OFF SATELLITE RADIO SERVICE IN CANADA WITH SIRIUS LIVE CONCERTS IN TORONTO AND MONTREAL

SIRIUS Canada today announced that it will be hosting two live concerts in Toronto and Montreal to celebrate the launch of its satellite radio service in Canada. The SIRIUS Live concerts, on December 6th in Toronto, and December 7th in Montreal will be simulcast live throughout North America and feature well known and emerging Canadian artists.

 

SIRIUS Live in Toronto, to be broadcast live from the Mod Club on CBC Radio3 (SIRIUS channel 94) and Iceberg (SIRIUS channel 95) and will feature hot new Canadian recording artist Feist, popular singer songwriter Kathleen Edwards, The Trews - one of the best live touring bands in Canada, and Juno award winner Ron Sexsmith.

 

SIRIUS Live in Montreal will be broadcast live from the Spectrum on Bande à part (SIRIUS Channel 93), Energie2 (SIRIUS channel 193) and Rock Velours (SIRIUS channel 192) and feature emerging Quebec rock band Les Pistolets Roses, Anik Jean and new electronic sensation aKido.

According to Colin McDonald of The Trews, the band is totally "stoked" for the exposure they will get on SIRIUS. "It's incredible that millions of people in North America will have the opportunity to hear our music in one night. With our album being released in the US in the early New Year, this is a great way to make new fans," said McDonald.

 

Feist says, "I'm really glad to be a part of this launch. I get to share the stage with people I admire and cut the ribbon on this new technology."

 

"I am delighted that my music will be broadcast throughout North America, it is fabulous exposure through a new medium," said Kathleen Edwards.

 

Quebec emerging artist Anik Jean said, "SIRIUS satellite radio is an amazing opportunity for up and coming artists to showcase our music, in both French and English, to such a huge audience ... who knows, maybe we will get new fans across the continent."

 

aKido says, "Satellite radio is a great way for original artists to be heard by listeners eager to discover new music. I am happy to play this show at the Montreal Spectrum which will be broadcast live across North America."

 

Les Pistolets Roses, "We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our music at the launch of SIRIUS satellite radio, it will be a great event and we cannot wait!"

Commitment to New Canadian Talent

SIRIUS Canada is committed to supporting Canadian musical talent and will be investing 5% of its revenues on Canadian talent development initiatives over the next seven years. This new money and incremental funding for the Quebec and Canadian music and artistic communities will be divided equally among French and English artists. The funding will help showcase new and emerging artists, provide grants for production, create music videos and CD's and will be used to promote new and emerging artists throughout Canada, the U.S and Europe. In addition, SIRIUS Canada has created the position of Canadian Talent Coordinator with the expressed purpose of promoting Canadian artists and performers for the 100+ SIRIUS channels available throughout North America.

 

SIRIUS Canada's premium satellite radio service features 100 channels of music, entertainment, sports and information will begin broadcasting on December 1, 2005. SIRIUS Canada will offer Canadians the most channels, the best variety and the highest quality of coverage among satellite radio providers in Canada.
