Broadcaster Magazine

Veteran Alberta radio broadcaster Wes Montgomery has died after a brief illness. Montgomery, 66, died Monday in an Edmonton hospital.

He was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., and began his radio career in Peace River in 1958. After working in Lloydminster and Saskatoon, he moved to Edmonton in 1964 where he joined 630 CHED as Sports Director. Four years later, he became the morning show host which lasted 17 years. Montgomery's identifiable voice and down-to-earth humour catapulted him to achieve some of the highest ratings ever in Edmonton radio.

After stints at other broadcast outlets, Montgomery joined CFCW in Edmonton in the fall of 1993, where he was the morning man until his death.
