STANDARD RADIO TORONTO MAKES WORLD FUND RAISING HISTORY!!!
Standard Release
The community has shown its overwhelming support of The Hospital for Sick Children by donating a world record amount of $ 3.2 million dollars during the Have a Heart for Sick Kids Radiothon.
Have a Heart for Sick Kids is the largest Radiothon in Canada with Standard Radio Toronto stations; Mix 99.9, Newstalk 1010 CFRB and 97.3 EZRock broadcasting live from the atrium of Sick Kids April 13th - 15th, 2005.
More than 200 patients, families and staff told their amazing stories and experiences during the three-day Radiothon including the mother of 5 year old Inara Amarsi - the "miracle" girl who survived a 15-metre fall after being thrown off an overpass by her father. Inara's mother Shamsh Amarsi credits the Hospital for Sick Children for "giving a new life to her child".
Last year, Standard Radio Toronto and its listeners raised $2.3 million and broke the record for the most money raised by a Radiothon in North America. The money raised during this three-day event will be used for the highest priority needs of the Hospital for Sick Children.
All three stations created radio history when Newstalk 1010 CFRB and sister stations MIX 99.9 and 97.3 EZ Rock simulcast live for the final hour of the Radiothon with hosts; CFRB's Ted Wolyshyn and John Moore, MIX 99.9's Humble & Fred and Steve Anthony and 97.3 EZ Rock's Mike & Christine and KJ as they joined forces for this historic simulcast of the final hour.
Standard Radio Toronto and its listeners donated $3.2 Million dollars to the Hospital For Sick Children! This officially exceeds Standard's 2004 record fundraising effort of $2.3 Million Dollars!!
"Being able to stop the world for three glorious days and simply do good for others is a tremendous priviledge for our staff and our listeners. At the end of the day, that's what this is all about; helping others and expecting nothing in return except a good warm personal feeling. To know that these monies will absolutely save Children's lives makes it that much more magical". Pat Holiday - Vice President and GM -Standard Radio Toronto.
Standard Radio Toronto reaches over 50% of the Toronto listening audience and with its collective listenership Standard Radio broke the existing world record for radio fundraising with over $3.2 Million raised over the three-day Radiothon. In 2004 Standard Radio stations across Canada raised over $5,000,000 to assist local hospitals in their communities.
